Lakota tomahawk


Original single bat wing pipe tomahawk hand forged blade with brass inlay- probably 1860-1880. Head forged from a rifle barrel. Wonderful “patina” of the period. Haft probably in ash wood or linden wood, shiny old patina and brass-tacks decoration. Probably northern Cheyenne (Tsitsitsas). Length of the haft is 27,55 inch, length of the blade is 10,82 inch. Provenance Montana from private collection.
The haft is embellished with a beaded drop of venetian glass beads of 19th century, sinew stiches, calico cotton on the back, blu selvedge material original of the period, with thin cones and yellow died horse hair, antique hawk bells.
